Q: I’ve been trying to think of a question! Here…what style/kind/form of shibari do you like best?

Oh my! A rope question 😀 I love all kinds, really. However, the more I read the more I come to realize my preferences. When it comes to functional Shibari I prefer the classic Japanese style to the western style. I think Japanese Shibari is much more stylized but it will still hold the person firmly.

But some people like the more disheveled look and for that a more Western style is great. Western seems to be more improvisation to me than following set rules and using specific knots and body patterns. It’s highly functional but I like Shibari for the beauty and time it takes to do it. But if you want to do a non-consensual scene, western style is great.

I’ve also been really interested in Macrame which is like…rope as fashion. I’ve posted a couple pictures here but there’s not a whole lot on the subject, unfortunately. This isn’t really meant to be used as a way to restrict people so I think people put it aside. However, it’s really beautiful.

It’s a great art form and suggest learning it even for just it’s therapeutic properties! It’s a great way to relax. I love practicing my knots. Just make sure you take the time to really learn about it because there’s a lot of potential safety hazards ESPECIALLY with suspension. If you want to learn suspension find a credible rigger to learn from personally.

Hope this helped!
